R.I.P Gene Colan 1926 - 2011

It has been reported that Gene Colan, the artist who defined many a Bronze Age Marvel series - notably Daredevil, Tomb of Dracula and Howard The Duck - has passed away. He will be missed.

  1. It's so sad that Gene Colan's last few years were so troubled. But the sadnesses will fade in our memory, and we'll remember one of the people who really deserved to be called a Marvel architect, the man who brought shade to the Marvel Universe with his work on the likes of Daredevil, Dracula and Dr Strange, while still delivering such shiny delights as Iron Man. And then there's his definitive Howard the Duck.

I'd love it if DC announced they were finally collecting Superman: the Phantom Zone, as a tribute to both Colan and the late Steve Gerber.

  2. An excellent idea Martin. I recently bought an almost complete run of Howard The Duck on eBay, and was mesmerised by the level of maturity that those two creators brought to mainstream comics. I would recommend everyone reads the Essential Howard The Duck volume to appreciate just what a wonderful artist Colan was.
